RISKY VENTURES

I wondered what would happen to me if I went
against the law of our tribe which forbade the
making of weapons by women. Would the four
winds blow in from four directions of the world
and smother me as I made the weapons? Or,
would the earth tremble, as many said, and bury
me beneath its falling rocks? Or, as others said,
would the sea rise over the island in a terrible
flood? Would the weapons break in my hands
in the moment when my life was in danger?

My daughter got a brand new doo a couple of days ago!!
I think it makes her look even more like a super model!! (she HATES it when I say this!)
Im proud of her for trying something different.
She's getting better and better at this, the older she gets. We talked a little bit about this over pizza. We reminisced about the scary, risky things she's done thus far in her young life.
Anna has always been feisty. But maybe feisty is different than bravery?
Feistyness came out in the halls of junior high...just ask the boy she shin-kicked. Ask Vice-principal Six, who completely supported her in this 'assault' since she was only 'protecting' some helpless classmate from being blasted by fart spray...yes, thats right, fart spray!!
Oh the joys and trials of Jr High!!!

Then it was on to high school, where boys became even dumber in her wizened mind. (YES!!!)

Then...going off to college...not with a gaggle of girlfriends...but by herself, willing herself to believe that "it would be fun" to strike out on her own! And....it was!!!
Oh the joys and pleasures of the college life!!!

THen...it was upstate New York calling her name. And off she went...by her lonesome...to discover what that venture would bring.
It brought a firmer testimony and a resolve to serve!!

So as all good adventures go...another one followed quickly on its heels.
This time it was a desire to serve a mission. To who knew where. There's a risk there, when that button is pushed, to let our leaders know that one is willing to sacrifice 18-24 months of ones life for the Lord. A risk of the unknown.
Until the call comes.
Houston, Texas...held/holds a piece of our daughters heart from here on out!!
Talk about different.
Talk about scary.
Talk about risky.
Sister, Mormon missionaries are DIFFERENT!!
They are BRAVE
They are STRONG
They are BLESSED

Now shes home, and braving the cold in Logan, risking frost-bite and has found herself a real love interest. To date, I think this may be the biggest 'adventure/risk" she has yet encountered. But she's up to the task. She's prepared.
Because now she has bangs!!!

I congratulate her for her strength.
GO ANNA!!
Your adventures only increase from here on out!!
Trust me!!

Happy Birthday Rob!!

"Dont scared, Mama," Jenny patted the
top of her mother's head and hugged it.
To communicate in words this precious
moment when her child first showed
empathy would be as futile as trying
to know the golden sunset by hearsay
rather than experiencing it first
hand, for there is a great chasm
between words and experience.

Its already a given that the first born son is darling and sweet and brand new...

Happy Birthday Son!!

but....
what shall we say about his mothers hair!!!?
Why didnt someone tell me!!!!?
And yes I know...
today is not about me.
But...WHY DIDN"T SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING!!!?
I am grateful that somehow, over the years, I've gained a measure of self-esteem, thank heavens, and can now bring myself to post such a ghastly picture. And...laugh at myself.
But...
yes.... I know....
THis is supposed to be about that darling baby boy in our arms...
May you have your fathers genes, and see that you'll hardly change a bit through the coming years!!
We love you so much son!!

This weeks music selection for you!! HERE
Trust is how I have lived my life.
But always, always, there has been
that hunger to know, to see, to
experience the unseen world. I have
been a mystic with nothing in my
poor little cup but trust.

Liam Robert Stephenson
Born December 28th 2009
Born nearly 1 and 1/2 months early.
Came into the world at 34 weeks gestation, weighing a very respectable 5lbs 13oz!
(If he'd gone to full term...he'd probably been a 1olb. baby!!!)
Mommy and Daddy say he came easily into the world, arriving at 2:00am, while most of us were home sawing logs.
Liam is spending the first days of his life in a big, fancy incubator with more bells and whistles and wires attached to him than a home security system. When I first had a chance to behold his sweet face, he had a funny mask strapped to his head, that caused his little peach fuzzed face to scrunch and pout. And still he looked darling. The purpose of the mask...to help little Liam keep his lungs full of air, to keep those brand new lungs expanded so that they world remain functioning as they should. They told us he'd wear this contraption for 24 hours, or maybe longer...depending on how quickly he adjusted to life here on earth. Well...in less than 24 hours, when I returned to visit again in the evening, this 'space mask' was off and returned to the shelf, because Liam could do it on his own!!! (Modern day medicine is truly riddled with miracles!!)
Mommy and Baby were then able to enjoy some real bonding time together. And Im certain that all the prayers and well wishes, and positive thoughts that have come our way are a certain factor in speeding up his adjustment to earth life. I think it'd be a safe bet that Liam will be home, in his family's embrace, well before anyone in the NICU would have expected!!!
Go Liam!!!
We are so thrilled you are here, and that you are so strong!!

***As a side note- I MUST mention how very, very proud, and even awestruck I am with Liam's parents. Im not sure where such calm and composure comes from...for babies in incubators are sometimes scary images to behold, but it doesnt appear to be the case for these two young, novice parents. They are CALM
COOL

COLLECTED
and are teaching me a thing or two about faith and....faith!!!
Once again it has been very apparent how very blessed Logan and now Liam are to have such 'natural born' parents in Natalie and Joe!!

We had a wonderful visit with our Elder Clark on Christmas Day!
Nothing like hearing the voice of a loved one after many long months of hearing nothing but "you got mail" on Monday mornings. Email is wonderful, but hearing his laugh and his distinct spanish accent through the telephone lines is so much better!!
He was sicker than a dog...with a nasty cold....which we learned today, through email, that it was serious enough to get him to the doctors and become medicated...but so, so happy to be serving the people in Chile!!
Yep...I guess I can happily wait until Mothers Day before I hear his voice again!!
It was a wonderful Christmas gift...to hear the joy and satisfaction in his heart.

Sunday Musings

Ideas emerge slowly, quietly, invisibly at first.
They are most often abnormal thoughts, thoughts
that disrupt the quotation, the accustomed.
They divide and multiply, become invasive.
With time they congeal, consolidate, and make
themselves conscious. An idea surfaces and
demands total attention.

Sundays are a special day, set aside to worship our Heavenly Father and our Savior. Its a day that I personally gird up my loins, throw on many layers, and head to the icebox known as church. This day was all the more special because we still have family here celebrating the Christmas season with us. And...because Brian has chosen this Sunday to become an Elder!! Bri, loves and admires his Uncle Joe...and liked the idea of taking advantage of his visit...and including him in the circle, as hands are laid on his head to set him apart in the priesthood. Brian's road to missionaryhood has been an eventful one...but one that has been tried and tested, and he has been found worthy...by his own diligence!!! How very, very proud we are of Brian!!
What a wonderful Sabbath this day has been!!!

Tithing

As with all laws and blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ., the law of tithing falls within the 3 fold mission of the church, specifically to 'perfect the saints'. Obedience to the law of tithing brings spiritual as well as temporal blessings. (Stephen L. Richards quote) “Observance of tithing brings spiritual power, and to me, that is the main thing. Religion is more than mere repose or relaxation. It is positive spiritual exercise. It makes for the growth of the soul. It cultivates all virtues.”
Pres. Kimball reminds us that “tithing is a spiritual as well as an economic law, that when fully obeyed, will bring promised blessings so great that there will not be room enough to receive”, as stated in Malachi 3:10-11 and 3 Nephi 3:10.
Lets first review what tithing is, how and when it is to be paid, then discuss why we pay tithing, and the blessings that are promised to those who obey to this law.
First, tithing is defined as 1/10th of our increase, or our income, interest or wages that we earn each year, as clarified by modern day prophets. Whether employed, self-employed, or unemployed, the law of tithing applies to all and is not measured by the quantity of dollars paid. A full tithe of pennies and nickles paid by the youngest primary child is the same as a full tithe paid in millions by the wealthy of the Church. It is all the same in the eyes of the Lord and the blessings to each will be full and complete. We remember the Lords lesson in the New Testament of the widows mite, although meager, this was a full offering and more than what those who were wealthy had given that day. By this example alone, we can see what is meant by the saying that 'tithing is paid with faith, not with money', as Elder Tuttle and others have taught.
Ultimately, how and when we pay our tithing is a private matter between us and the Lord. Whether we pay on the 'gross' or on the 'net' check amount is up to each of us and the Lord, but suffice it to say that gross blessings are much better than net blessings. Maybe better to give just a bit more, than to give a bit less. We can never have the Lord in our debt.
We understand that tithing funds are the Lords, and are used for a variety of sacred purposes; temples are built, chapels are constructed, missions and schools are run, and many other programs that are inspired and blessed by the Lord. I am not sure if part of these funds go to support the Lords football team, but this can be discussed further in priesthood meeting. lol
Concerning tithing settlement, I will put in a plug here for the Bishop...tithing settlement can be done in early or mid December, and is just as valid as if it was conducted that last week of the month, or on the last day of the month. It is a declaration that we are full tithe payers for the year up to that point. I remember a brother in a ward in Salt Lake that would insist on waiting until nearly the last day of December to come in and declare his tithing status. This was hard on the Bishops schedule and unnecessary to wait.
Now let's get into the fun part of this law...
Tithing is a law and commandment, that when followed will give more to the giver than to the receiver, which is always the case with God laws. Blessings of both a temporal and spiritual nature are promised. We read in Gospel Doctrine...”both temporal and spiritual blessings are poured out upon the honest tithe payer as a result of his obedience to that law. By such obedience he gains the spirit of inspiration in temporal and spiritual pursuits so that in the end he is ahead financially and temporally, to say nothing of the spiritual growth that always attends such a course.”
The Lord uses very clear and descriptive words to help us understand this more fully. Lets look in more detail at the scripture referred to often regarding tithing. In Malachi 3:10-11 we read that the Lord wants us to 'prove' him and to take him at his word that he will bless us by 'opening' the windows of Heaven and 'pouring' out a blessing, so much so that we will not have the room to contain all the blessing. (read Mal. 3:10) Let me give you an example of what 'pouring' is to me...
As a youth, I lived in upstate New York, and had the privilege of seeing what 'pouring' really is when it relates to rain. I saw many times at the Hill Cumorah Pageant how the Lord was able to divert a storm or turn off a storm, then turn it back on when the music ended. The saints who lived here in St. George in the spring of 1899 understood as well what the Lord meant by the word 'pour'. St. George had been experiencing a drought for nearly 35 years and had not seen any rain at all for 2 years. We have all heard the story of Pres. Snow visiting the area, and promising the members of the church that if they were obedient in observing the law of tithing, that they would be able to plant their crops that year and see an abundant harvest in the Fall. It was not until 8 or 9 weeks later that the rains came, and the promise fulfilled that blessings would be 'poured' out upon them, in this case very literally, in a temporal sense and also in a spiritual sense. Many grew spiritually from the lessons that were learned.
Why did they have to wait about 2 months for the rains to come? We may not know for sure the exact reasons, but we do know that as Moroni stated in the 12th chapter of Ether, the blessings do not usually come until after the trial of our faith. Possibly, to some extent, St. George and many areas of our country are in a 'spiritual drought' which could be relieved by obeying this law and others more fully. Pres. Faust also said that 'Tithing is a principle of sacrifice and a key to the opening of the windows of Heaven'.
We are reminded by the Lord in D&C 130:20-21 that each blessing we receive is based on obedience to a commandment.
"There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated- And when ye obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated."

This is also confirmed in the 82nd section of the D&C, where the Lord states again that he is bound by laws as well, and that we can be assured that if we obey a commandment, that he will keep his end of the bargain.

"I the Lord am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise."
D&C 82:10
So it raises the question, that if the Lord is bound and will bless our lives fully, if we keep this and other commandments, then why would anyone deny these blessings to ourselves and our families?
Back to Malachi 3. Lets read verse 11, where the Lord continues his promise of blessings, by stating that those who observe the law of tithing will have our work, and our livelihoods and all that we work for be protected and preserved to ours and our families benefit. "I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of Hosts." The 'devourer' can take many forms in our lives and affect us in many ways.
Now this does not mean that our lives will go without financial troubles if we obey the law of tithing. We need to remember that obedience to this law and others will bring spiritual blessings as well as blessings of health and wellness to our families. Not all blessings that are promised will be financial blessings. Pres. Grant stated that “Prosperity comes to those who obey the law of tithing”. King Benjamin reminds us of this in the 2nd chapter of Mosiah, where we are asked to 'consider the blessed and happy state of those who keep the commandments of God, for they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual'.
For a new member or for someone that is struggling with this commandment, the questions may come up if tithing is too much of a sacrifice or if and how it is a blessing and a privilege to obey. At some point in our lives, many of us has asked ourselves if we can afford to pay tithing, and have determined that we cant afford to not pay tithing. I can remember as a child my parents teaching me the law of tithing and that they found that in their lives, they could not afford to live their lives without paying an honest tithe.
Joseph Smith understood that this law might be too hard for the saints in his day, but taught us that 'a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things, never has the power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation.”
When we look at how the Lord fed the 5000 and the 4000 with just a few loafs of bread and a few fishes, and then have baskets of food leftover, we can then better understand how the Lord can 'pour' out his blessings on us without a common sense explanation as to how or why we have enough money at the end of each month, or why we are blessed in other ways. Sometimes the math does not seem to make sense, but the Lord is the best mathematician of all, and we don't question. Again, we are blessed both temporally and spiritually, but some blessings may be more immediate or obvious, while others may be hidden or a bit obscure, but no less real. We can be assured of this.
In summary, the law of tithing is preparing us for the time that we will be asked to live a higher law that may seem to require more of us in time, effort and our possessions. In fact in order to live with God in the Celestial Kingdom, we will live the law of consecration, which we learn about in the temple. Do we look at the law of tithing as if the glass is 10% empty or is our cup 90% full? As the Psalmist taught, 'The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof'. Brothers and Sisters, we are only here temporarily and are really only tenants on the land. In a true sense, we dont really own anything. All that we eat, breathe, how we live, the beauty that we see around us is all the Lords. He gives it to us to use, to enjoy, to learn and to grow, and then we die and move on to something better. The test in this life is in how we live, who and how we serve, and how we follow Gods laws.
It is my testimony that God lives, that he loves each of us, and desires our success and prosperity in every way. He does want us to have joy, to be happy and to return to live with him someday. To this I bear my testimony, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

In the bleak midwinter, frost wind made moan,
earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
in the bleak midwinter, long ago.

Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain;
heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
but his mother only, in her maiden bliss,
worshiped the beloved with a kiss.

What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
yet what I can I give him: give my heart.

HEAVEN (finale')

In Conclusion- of a very interesting "study" of heaven,
My Builder, who seems to be able to do anything he puts his mind to- wrote a poem.
for me
about heaven
wow!

HEAVEN

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Heaven is clear
when I think of you
Heaven is great
and heaven is grand
much like walking the beach hand in hand.
Our children we have,
our children we grow,
not by ourselves,
but together we go
with God at our side and heaven in view
We know all things we can do.
With love and with joy,
we watch and we pray
for the safety, the strength and for success each day,
that our children will learn,
and will truly come to know,
that we gather what we plant,
and we reap what we sow.
For we know we are weak,
but strive to be strong,
and knowing the love our Father to us belongs,
So we ask and we plead for blessings above
and trust in His word
and the scope of His love.
So what is heaven you ask,
For this I am sure
It is families, it is love, it is all that is pure.
So, roses are red,
violets truly blue,
I know what is heaven
and I do love you.

But I do agree with cjane--that the choreography on the whole, was nothing like what we have seen in past seasons.

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. Mr Rogers

But not in vain had he grown old;
more than the white hairs on his
head were the sage thoughts in his
mind; his wrinkles and furrows were
inscriptions that Time had graved,
and in which he had written legends
of wisdom that had been tested by
the tenor of a life.
from: The Great Stone Face
by: Nathaniel Hawthorne

“Mister Rogers went onstage to accept the award — and there, in front of all the soap opera stars and talk show sinceratrons, in front of all the jutting man-tanned jaws and jutting saltwater bosoms, he made his small bow and said into the microphone, “All of us have special ones who have loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are. Ten seconds of silence.”

And then he lifted his wrist, looked at the audience, looked at his watch, and said, ‘I’ll watch the time.” There was, at first, a small whoop from the crowd, a giddy, strangled hiccup of laughter, as people realized that he wasn’t kidding, that Mister Rogers was not some convenient eunuch, but rather a man, an authority figure who actually expected them to do what he asked. And so they did. One second, two seconds, seven seconds — and now the jaws clenched, and the bosoms heaved, and the mascara ran, and the tears fell upon the beglittered gathering like rain leaking down a crystal chandelier. And Mister Rogers finally looked up from his watch and said softly “May God be with you,” to all his vanquished children.”

Do this every single day of your lives, and I promise you will never ever be unhappy.

Did we appreciate Mr Rogers as much as we should have? I dont think I did.

Thanks Alicia!!

"You'll shoot your eye out kid"

Aristotle said in his book, Rhetoric:

‘Thus every action must be due to one or other of seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reasoning, anger, or appetite.’

1. Chance

Chance events affect us all the time and, although some have little effect in changing what we do, a number of others force us to act or otherwise motivate us into action.

2. Nature

Natural forces are those ‘originating in the body, such as the desire for nourishment, namely hunger and thirst’ as well as other forces, such as to procreate.

3. Compulsions

Compulsion occurs when we feel that we must act, even though we may not wish to act this way. This may be compliance with the law or dysfunctional obsessive-compulsive behavior.

4. Habit

Habit is unthinking action, and Aristotle said ‘Acts are done from habit which men do because they have often done them before.’ Whilst compulsion is unpleasant and un-useful repetition of action, habit is pleasant and generally useful.

5. Reasoning

Aristotle points out that rational and reasoned action are to defined ends, achieving something that serves personal goals.

6. Anger

Sometimes interpreted as ‘passion’, anger can lead to extreme action.

Anger is closely related to revenge, and anger curiously lessens when there is no prospect of vengeance.

7. Appetite

Sometimes interpreted as ‘desire’, appetite is ‘craving for pleasure’.

Whilst anger serves negative motivation, ‘Appetite is the cause of all actions that appear pleasant’.

Aristotle pointed out that wealth or poverty is not a cause of action, although the appetite for wealth may well motivate.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
walkin’ home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa.
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She’d been drinkin’ too much egg nog.
And we’d begged her not to go.
But she’d forgot her medication,
and she staggered out the door into the snow.

When we found her Christmas mornin,’
at the scene of the attack.
She had hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin’ Claus marks on her back.

Now were all so proud of Grandpa.
He’s been takin’ this so well.
See him in there watchin’ football,
drinkin’ beer and playin’ cards with cousin Belle.

It’s not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family dressed in black.
And we just can’t help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?
(Send them back)

Now the goose is on the table.
And the pudding made of fig.
And a blue and silver candle,
that would just have matched the hair in Grandma’s wig.

I’ve warned all my friends and neighbors.
“Better watch out for yourselves.”
They should never give a license,
to a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves

The Book Thief

The Book Thief
Markus Zusak

As you know, I usually try to write up a review of a good book myself, but this time Im feeling I couldn't do it justice. Not for this GREAT book!!! So I borrow from the book description provided by the publisher:

It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

Markus Zusak can write!! His words are perfect!! Enjoy!!! Though the book will wrench your heart!!

Thank you Cathy, for the great recommendation!!!

by: Mitch Albom

As for your question, I see beaches and warm breezes and not a lot of people around
(I have no idea where the rest of the people in heaven are) when I see heaven and certainly not the clouds most people see.
Unlike you I am not 100% certain that it exists but hopeful. peace,
from friend Jim, a repeat guest at Fitness Ridge, who always has a smile and a nice thing to say.

"Heaven is in the clouds. When you arrive there are beautiful gates that
you enter with a gate keeper to greet you. All your friends and family
that have passed are there.
It is peaceful. That's what I think......"
from dear friend Tami, the most generous person I know!!

Heaven...I believe heaven is going to be heaven because of the people around you. It's going to be the feeling that you have around them and with them and with your environment. Pure comfort and bliss is what I imagine...and it never ends. We experience moments like that on earth and call it 'heaven on earth' but when we find ourselves in that heavenly situation, that feeling and moment will go on for eternity. How amazing and wonderful will that be?! Indescribable! I don't know what it's going to look like or if we'll be living in houses and eating our favorite foods. But I do know a little about Heavenly Father and He is HAPPY. He wants all of His children to be happy and He knows exactly, individually how best to do that. So Heaven will be wonderful and perfect for you and for me.

When I think about heaven I think about the movie Saturday's Warriors. I don't know if you have ever even seen it. It's a pretty cheesy movie about a family before they come to earth and while they are on earth. I picture it being white and clean and everyone is always happy and excited for a new day. That we all get to be with our families and enjoy every minute together.

I do have a lot of thoughts about heaven. I'll just write a few out for you off the top of my head. For some reason, I've always been so excited to see what it's actually going to be like. People seem to fear death so much. But for me, I can't wait to die! Not that I'm going to do anything that would make it happen any sooner and not that I'm anxious to leave where I am now, but just that I've always seen life after death (or heaven) as a source of so many answers. The way I see it, we can't even begin to comprehend now what it will be like. It's like the two dimensional cartoon character attempting to visualize what gaining access to the third dimension would be like or for us, as third dimensional beings, trying to picture what experiencing a fourth spacial dimension would be like. We simply don't have the capacity to comprehend it. We are limited to only five physical senses that dictate to us all the information they are able to of the world around us; and thus we only get a very fragmented and partial view. But what if suddenly we weren't limited by those senses? What if we were able to completely understand all things around us as they really are? Despite size, frequency, energy type, etc. ? I think that when we leave this mortal physical body, our spirits are no longer limited. In a way, they are set free. And at this point, we will have the capacity to comprehend all the great questions: How was the universe created? How does gravity actually work? What was at the very beginning? Is there a very end? And we also get the greatest of all questions answered: What was my role in this life? Who am I? What influence/effect did my life have on others? How did others influence/effect me? In life, we have so many experiences, and many are forgotten. But without the restrictions of a mortal mind, we will remember every experience we ever had. We will not only remember all we did and why we did it, but we will understand perfectly the influence it had on others and others will perfectly understand the influence they had on us. In this way, we get the most out of life. Every life lesson, experience, and decision we had will go into giving us a full view of agency and understanding good from evil. In my opinion, this is the only way to tap into the full potential of lessons this life has to offer. And as a result of our perfect understanding of our influences and decisions, we will naturally be happy or sad for what we did. We will be able to see people we either loved and hated in this life, and have a complete understanding of every thought and action they ever had. And in turn, they will have the same for us. In this way, we perfectly understand each other and I think that's what brings a perfect love for one another; even if we were enemies. We see all that occurred from every possible angle and viewpoint. In a nutshell, I would say heaven is where we gain all of our understanding and reach our full potential; where all the uncertainties of a difficult life finally makes sense and our perfect understanding coupled with our experiences make us far more than we could ever be in this life.

Heaven; I used to long for heaven because heaven meant only one thing to me - Scott. And while my love for him is just as strong, the longing for him has lessened. My heart has been released and I have been blessed to find love again.

I now think of heaven in terms of feelings. Heaven will feel joyful and light; understanding and peace will fill my soul. I have no idea what it might look like, however we are taught that the earth will be celestialized at the Lords coming. I think we might be surprised to find that we are already living in "heaven."

interesting question. I suspect heaven feels like a good day on the farm. Lots of good work opportunities that provide lots of good interaction with fellow heaven-ites."

I don't really know what I expect to see or experience in heaven. Whatever it is I hope to be with doing it with my family and dear friends.

If I could design what heaven would be...one important part would be to go back and experience in time lapse the creation of this gorgeous planet and see the changes in the land and water formations that took place over millions of years.
I thought of this when we were hiking in Snow Canyon this past weekend. Listening to tidbits of history that you were sharing made me wish I could watch the lava flowing through vents around Pine Mtn and fill up canyons, see the formation of the sandstone from ancient sea beds and then lifted up through earthquakes.

This visit through history would also include the opportunity to be a "fly-on-the-wall" during pivotal events of human history. I think it would be incredible to watch the original meetings of the founders of this country, to see the meeting at the Whitmer farm that restored our Church, etc.

My description of heaven:

Absolutely peaceful, no conflict or worries. Everyone sincerely loves each other and there's no jealousy, fighting, or bitterness. Total acceptance and true love from everyone. There are no groups of people - we are all part of one unit. There's no self doubt or insecurity. There's lots of learning still left to do so most of our time is spent learning and teaching. I imagine it is the most beautiful place with amazing architecture, artwork in elaborate and ornate frames, gorgeous gardens, landscapes that are breathtaking, perfect 75-80 degree weather. (Maybe a tad warmer) We're never hot or cold just perfectly comfortable all of the time. Our clothes are classic pieces that are perfectly tailored to our perfectly toned and fit bodies. ;)

There are dogs in heaven but no cats. ;)

When I think of "heaven", I usually don't think of specific things or the "decorative part of it". I think of people, like my Mom whom I still miss very much. I also think in terms of what we'll be doing, and I believe that will echo what we have chosen to do/be here ( a rather intimidating thought for me). I would have to say I would echo Joe's description - "look out your window" - although I think the grandeur of the different kingdoms or realms will be on a scale we can not imagine. I have had a few very profound moments outdoors when I have keenly felt the truth of that statement - one on a particularly dark night up a canyon looking at stars without number.
I have had thoughts of heaven when I have held each of my children as babies, and now each of my grandbabies. Right now, I can't put that feeling into words, as they are simply too limiting. But it's reflected in a belief in continuing life, progression, purity and love.

I think heaven will be a gentle busy place. We will be able to do many things, visit with our family and friends and carry on the work that we enjoy, with the people who are also enjoying it. Our minds will be clear and we will be able to do many things at once and it will seem to be fun and easy.

And finally we have this beautiful poem, written for my father-in-law, by a dear friend of theirs, Laree Hill, just for this occasion.

HEAVEN

Just 'where' and 'what' is Heaven?
The simple word means 'peace.'
It's where our Heavenly Father lives
And all our cares will cease.

Can you imagine such a place
Where we will feel great love?
We all will be so happy
With heavenly guidance there above,

There wont be hate and envy
There wont be sadness there.
Because we'll feel the spirit,
Heavenly Father's love He'll share.

That big bad boy called Satan
Will be thrown our on his ear.
He wont be there to taunt us
We well never have to fear.

We'll se the heaaven's brilliance
WIth soft lighting all around.
The darkness will just fade away
We'll just hear pleasant sounds.

The colors will be brilliant,
The grass, the shrubs and trees,
And all the flowers blooming
We'll fall right on our knees.

The fruits will all be hanging
From the foliage and the vines,
It's..oh, so sweet and tasty
It nearly blows our minds.

The oceans, streams and rivers
Are a glorious site to see
The babbling brooks and water falls
Show God's hand to you and me.

Oh, we will be so happy
Loved ones all around us here.
No more sad goodbyes to plague us,
No more death of those so dear.

To walk and talk with Jesus
What a glorious trend of thought
Just imagine how we'll handle that
The Spirit we'll have caught.

So here and now we'll plod along,
Paying tithing, working hard.
To fill our different callings,
And keep praying to the Lord.

We're thankful for our blessings
Our little flock we'll always tend.
Our goal is just to make it,
We'll endure unto the end.

So we cannot get discouraged
We'll keep climbing to the top.
We're building for our future
Heavenly Father, we wont stop!

We'll see you soon in heaven,
We'll be knocking on your door,
We'll throw our arms around you,
We'll feel your love for sure.

"Well done my faithful servant"
We hope we'll hear you say.
It surely will be worth it,
On that bright and glorious day!
