So it's official!!!
I ran a test!!!!
I've just come back from seeing Momma Mia for the 2nd time. And I now can say with full assuredly that I do indeed LOVE this movie!!! Yes sirreee....It was unique and magical the first time I saw it. It was still magical and fun the 2nd time. My Builder went to see it with me the first time. (Yes I know- he really loves me!!) And I knew we were in for a treat when the owner of the theater introduced himself as he stood in front of us all and welcomed us!! That was clue #1 that were in for something special!!

Clue #2- Abba music!!!!!! Cant go wrong here either.
Clue #3- it was filmed in Greece!! ahhhh...someday.....
4th clue- It was a feast of color and texture!! (where oh where can one find that fabric that they hung from windows and clothes lines and covered the yacht decks with??? I want some!!!!!!!!) It was a feast for all the senses really- I could taste the yummy Greek breads.
And best of all--- Meryl Streep!!!!
I told my cuz, that I think she is now officially my new hero. Give me a woman who's nearly my age (10 yrs my senior is all), that is willing to lay it all out there-for millions to see. A woman who delights in her own self and her own skin. Who's not afraid of those close-ups, and not reluctant to show her beautiful laugh lines and crows feet on that glowing face. Will anything stop her!? I hope not!!
To sing-to act- to dance with abandon-to cry and blubber without a care for her red, runny nose. And it appeared to me that she had more scenes in the movie NOT wearing any make-up than scenes where she was all dolled up. Don't most of us yearn for this confidence in our own skin and to have enthusiasm in our lives and in the things we are doing?? I believe we do.

I know that its Hollywood 'job' to capitalize on these feelings that women have-so bravo to them for doing it with style this time!!!! I may not have cried as much at my 2nd viewing of Mamma Mia, though I did cry enough. Joyful, blissful tears!!!! You can well imagine the spicketts opening wide when Donna sings as she ready's her daughter for her wedding. Oh my---it will be Anna before I know it.
And how I loved the scene where the women drop everything, and stop what they're doing, and join in mass for a dance through the streets. WOOWEEEE!!! I wish I would/could dance through the street with reckless abandon.
My final comparison is this: Durning the 1st showing-the theater owner returned at the end of the movie- just before the credits started rolling- and somehow, with just a tad of encouragement, he had every lady in the room up on their feet, danc'in to Danc'in Queen!! (this was missing the second time I saw it-and it was too bad. )

So now I ask myself-why didnt I get up and start the
danc'in??? Im a chicken thats why!!!!
Hint: whatever you do, do not leave the theater until you are sure its all over. You'll miss out.
By-the-way, if Meryl Steep doesnt at least get nominated for some prestigious award for this movie.....I'll have to protest. I may just have to .........hummmmm.....leave the country..............and move to Greece maybe!!!!

What I Learned: I dont necessarily have to be young again to feel young. And I dont have to be 20something to feel sexy and good about myself. Feeling good about myself in the here and now-this CAN be done. I WILL DANCE!!!

I LOVE this movie....I can't wait to see it again!
do you really think that self-conscientiuosly (?). cindy, dude, you're fabulous! you don't have to hide behind sunglasses, unless of course you are trying for that fab-Tiffany's look esque thing. that would be okay.
i'm also totally down with the no make-up thing. i think it should be something that every woman does once a week, at least, and goes out in public like that.
maybe we should revolt. however, i do have an affinity for eyeshadow. it amkes me happy. that's why i have every color in the rainbow, i think.
I'm so glad I read your comments before seeing the movie and if no one else gets up to dance at the end, I'll probably embarass my sweet hubby and do it anyway... I'm old enough now :) You should publish your musings for the last year and call it Life as Cindy Blogs It. It would be a best seller like Gifts from the Sea!! Love you, Sharon
