WHEN I ADMIRE THE WONDERS OF A SUNSET OR THE BEAUTY OF THE MOON, MY SOUL EXPANDS IN WORSHIP OF THE CREATOR. -Mahandas Gandhi
Why- do we suppose the Lord put the moon out there? Just for decoration or to light up the night sky? Think again!!
Did you know...
+The moon stabilized the 23.5 degree tilt on the earth's axis
+Without the tilt, there would be no seasons.
+High and low tides would be half their size, being affected only by the sun.
+The earth would spin much faster- to the tune of 10 hours in a day and not 24!
+Extreme temps, strong constant winds,(enough of the winds already!!) awkward circulation, short days, would all attribute to a rather unpleasant earth experience- without the glowing moon.
Some other interesting terrestrial tidbits:
*Our earth spins at 1,000 miles an hour.
*It moves through the solar system at 66,000 miles an hour
*Our sun drags us on its journey around the galaxy at 540,000 miles an hour.
*Jupiter is the largest of all the planets. Over 1,ooo earths could fit inside.
*Our sun weighs 2.2 billion billion billion tons, and a million earths could fit inside of it.
*The sun burns some 4 million tons of nuclear fuel every second to produce the energy that allows for life on our earth.
*The largest star yet discovered is Mu Cephi. It is in our Milky Way Galaxy but is thousands of light years away. Put it in the middle of our solar system and it would reach to Saturn's orbit-making this mammoth star more than 1 billion miles in diameter.
More Mind Blowing tidbits:
+The size of a printed letter on this page is about 10 billion times smaller than the earth.
+The same printed letter is 10 billion times larger than an atom.
+If we enlarged a hydrogen atom to the size of the earth, its very core, the nucleus, would be the size of a normal basketball.And...this represents only a trillionth of the atom's total volume. Its electron would be orbiting the core at about 4,000 miles away.
+So...atoms are almost completely empty space, and billions of these can fit in the space of a single printed letter.
What do I learn from this glimpse into the cosmos from the moon and further and even down to the smallest atom?
That the Lord and Moses had it go'in on! Remember the conversation we read in Moses?
"And behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I sill show thee the workmanship of mine hands; but not all, for my works are without end, and also my words, for they never cease. Wherefore, no man can behold all my works, except he behold all my glory; and no man can behold all my glory, and afterwards remain in the flesh on the earth... And now, behold, this one thing I show unto thee, Moses, my son...And it came to pass that Moses...beheld the world upon which he was created; and Moses beheld the world and the ends thereof, and all the children of men which are, and which were created;of the same he greatly marveled and wondered. And the presence of God withdrew from Moses, that his glory was not upon Moses; and Moses was left to himself. And it came to pass that it was for the space of many hours before Moses did again receive his natural strength like unto man; and he said unto himself: "NOW, FOR THIS CAUSE I know that man is nothing which thing I never supposed."
I love eating some humble pie every now and then.
