4 Beautiful Things I've Spotted Recently

Brian and I saw a pair of bald eagles soaring across the freeway on our way to Brain Head the other day. This grand pair of birds weren't specks in the distance, they flew right over our heads. (the top of our car to be exact) I had no idea they were making such a strong comeback. The last bald eagle I ever saw was in British Columbia when I was a teenager, sailing with my family. I LOVE now knowing that they live in my back yard, so to speak!! They are a magnificent bird. Utah is an even better place now that we have these feathered birds of prey living among us.

May a sunrise never get old or dull or unemotional for me, I pray!! Many mornings as I drive to work, before the sun rises, I am blessed with the gift of an amazing desert sunrise. Ahhh...so beautiful.

Recently we have had some pretty cold weather. I have a silly little pond out back. Lately it has had a very thin sheet of ice on it. The word is out, how ever its done in sparrow talk, and we are now the local bath house. You can look out the back window now and then and see a dozen or more birds taking turns on the icy waters edge, flitting and rolling and frolicking in the water. They splash more than any 2 year old I've seen, in much warmer water. Water is spraying everywhere. Who knew that such a small little bird could displace so much water? Who knew a bird could appear delirious? It almost made me wish I could join them for their infrequent bath- time opportunity in this desert.(NOT!) I could tell they were reveling in their opportunity to spiffy up a bit, in the new-found shallow water. They didn't seem to mind a bit that this water could only be a few degrees above FREEZING!!!! It was a beautiful sight to behold.

I now believe there could be no more of a beautiful site than to see your grandson wave hello to you as they walk in our door. Lachlan has already learned,at a very young age, how to get just ANYTHING he wants, just anything, with his beautiful beauty pageant wave. Bless you Bubba.

Wow! I didn't know you saw some bald eagles! That is neat! I imagined a disney movie where the birds are splashing and playing in the water as you described the birds in your pond! :)

We have bald eagles around here quite a lot. I run out on the deck with my binoculars anytime I see one. If you head to Utah lake they hang out in the trees by the lake. I once had a hawk in my back yard (brain damage - can't think of the name of the hawk) and he sat there and devoured a sparrow on my garden fence, then hung out and digested. I called all the neighbors and they brought their kids and we had a wonderful time looking through the windows at the beautiful teenaged hawk having lunch in my back yard. I LOVE birds!! Get yourself a pair of binoculars and head out on your hikes with them. Wish I could join you!
