“Chestita Baba Marta!” This literally translates to “Happy Grandma March” in honor of the grandmother who brings in spring. On March 1st Bulgarians give and receive red ”Martinitskas” to welcome spring. Later, they hang these on trees as they witness the return of nesting storks.
