"You are standing in the sky. When we think of the sky,
we tend to look up, but the sky actually begins at the
earth. We walk through it, yell into it, rake leaves, wash
the dog, and drive cars in it. We breathe it deep within
us. With every breath, we inhale millions of molecules of
sky, heat them briefly, and then exhale them back into the world."
— Diane Ackerman.
I almost always let the cold weather get the better of me. (i've only met a few like-minded souls who are as wimpy as I...and we have an exclusive club and I LOVE them!!)
Today I am happy to report that a remarkable transformation is taking place within me!! 2 days of being cooped up indoors- longing to be outside hiking, and knowing that I need to exercise in order to stay in shape, caused me to do something unprecedented!!!! Yesterday I gathered some like minded souls and we went for a hike in the numbing cold! Nobody MADE me, nobody paid me, and nobody had a gun to my head. But out we all went!!
These few pics easily convey just how cold it most certainly was out there.
In spite of the frigged temps and the gusting wind, we had a marvelous time!
Im not certain why it is that the colder it becomes, the bluer the sky turn....but the blue blew our socks off yesterday!! Someone called it celestial blue!! I think I agree!!!
It felt blissful to get the blood pumping again and to have sporadic pockets of space where the wind didnt blow and where the sun felt warm on our red, drippy noses that protruded from the woolliness of our scarves.
We werent strictly gathering coral dust between our toes yesterday. We reaped sand in our ears and eyes and noses too!!
I guess I am now officially a hiking fool!!
* note: this activity would NOT have happened if the sun was not shining!! At least not of my own free will and choice!!!

Ha!! I loved every minute of it...well except the first 3 minutes until I warmed up. Note to self: next time I'll bring a hankie for my drippy nose! Thanks again for taking me along.
