Stephenson Family Ties The Barn Burnt Down
And Now I See The Moon

“ So, please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
go throw your TV set away, and in its place
you can install, a lovely bookcase on the wall."
— Roald Dahl

Love the heroine in this book!!  She's so matter of fact and a no nonsense kinda gal!! It became apparent in the very first chapter that she and I were going to be 'friends.'
With Jean's unexpected windfall-- a sizable inheritance, she longed to return to her place of imprisonment and abuse during the Second World War, to  give thanks to the village who succored  her in her time of need,  and dig them a well.  I have said those words.  I've said repeatedly to My Builder that "I want to go to Africa and dig a well!!" or help build a school, to get my hands dirty.
Finally!! A book that kept me up too late, interrupted my computer blogging time, and caused dishes to pile up in the sink. Its been way too long since a book has interfered with my life!!
**** stars for this classic story
