In a world with real menaces, it always
struck me as a kind of wishful thinking,
this notion that global warming was our
most urgent danger, one so dire that it
was worth the risk of wreaking the world
economy in order to take steps that
everyone admitted would be futile...

Last weekend I watched Avatar again. This time with Clarky. Im not talking about the Airbender Avatar; Im referring to the egotistical James Cameron production. You know, with the blue people that live on the planet Pahoran...wait, thats not right, thats a Book of Mormon name- the planet is called Pandora.
This movie caused to wonder once again.
So Im going to ramble a little here.
I think I had a weird ah ha moment.
With all the less than subtle indoctrination going on in this movie, I still came away with some of my own orginal thoughts...maybe.
As in most 'spiritual' movie themes...we have a central 'power' that watches over the well being of any given civilization...whether blue people, or natives, or silly white folks. On Pandora there was a central Tree. A tree known as the Tree of Souls, or the Tree of the Ancestors.
This central figure can be a tree, or Mother Earth or The Great Spirit. We also may recognize it under other titles, such as Heavenly Father or Heavenly Mother or The Creator.
Whatever we happen to believe, I think that a vast majority of the world believes that there is a greater power in charge than what we can see with our own eyes. All these spiritual entites have a few things in common...they are powerful, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. And though you may find this a bit unusual, our religion also believes that this 'power,' this presence in our lives, is all loving and kind and nurturing too.
So...God created this amazing earth for us to enjoy, and to take care of. Could it be that he knew we would be slothful caretakers...and so, created a world that could heal itself? Im going out on a limb again to say that I think that this is absolutely the case.
Just as it was on Pandora....the great Tree of Souls could decide to lend help in its own saving, or not. I do believe that Earth can and will take care of herself. I really do believe this. That doesnt mean that we are then left to do what was wish with this earth... no way, no how!! As those that know me well, I have a serious streak of tree-hugging going on inside of me. I will always try and do my part to to make this world a better place than when I leave it-for me and for my beautiful grandkids. I'll keep on recycling, even though Im ridiculed by my very own. Im also a closet water police too!!! (I'd have no problem banging on peoples doors and getting after them if water is running down their gutters!)
The Hippie in me didnt see blue naked people running through the jungle- it saw someone else to love and learn from.
And even though Im nothing like the girl pilot with attitude...though I wish I was...Im just little ol me trying to make my corner of the world a little better. I feel no despair or apology for how I think...I dont feel its necessary to wring my hands in desperation, thinking the world is quickly coming to an end.
I feel hope in knowing that what I can do is better than nothing and in the end, maybe I wont be held accountable for making the worlds' come-back any more difficult.
So what is it Im really trying to say?
Im not sure.
Like I said, Im a rambl'in.
But....I truly do believe in Mother Earth, or whatever else you'd like to call her. I believe she has healing power....on so many levels than we will ever understand. I thank Avatar for reminding me of this.

I like your thoughts and agree that this earth can heal itself if we don't push it too far, and I also think we have a responsibility to do what we can to take care of it. Thus, I am also a recycling fool, also ridiculed by my own. No matter - it makes me feel good to put less in the city dump and thus do my little part!
