Stephenson Family Ties The Barn Burnt Down
And Now I See The Moon

A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck

The red and yellow binding stickers on this book state- "Advanced Reader" and "John Newberry Award" and "JF"
This book was definitely an easy read...I finished reading it in just a few hours.
It read like 9 delightful short stories. I laughed out loud. I was envious of the author's writing style. The flow was easy and fun; the vividness of Grandma and the easy access into the mind of Mary Alice, the city girl, and her teenage angst as she is forced to spend a year living with 'trigger happy' Grandma in the sticks, was spot on.

There is nothing heavy between these pages-except for the glimpses of how love certainly does come in different packages and is manifested in a range of different ways.

A favorite quote from the book:

"Them Burdicks isn't worth the powder and shot to blow them up. They're like a pack of hound dogs. They'll chase livestock, suck eggs, and lick the skillet. And steal? They'd steal a hot stove and come back for the smoke."
