Doobie Update

...but Miss Amelia prayed as if
the Lord were ten million miles
away, and she would be surprised
to pieces if she got anything she wanted.

After a two day escapade, doing who knows what-
Doobie is home once again!!!
And once again I deem it a tender mercy from above.
But this time, his jaunt away form the comforts of home yields some consequences-as I knew it would!!!
The nights are now cold here in our desert.
African Tortoises dont do cold!!
Doobie came back to us with a cold.
I tried to ignore it. Hoping he would get better once he was kept warm and safe and well fed.
But yesterday it became obvious that he was not beating the bug.
So yes...I bit the bullet and found a vet that 'does turtles' and took Doobie in to get checked out-
And was not surprised to learn that he does indeed have an upper respiratory infection!
Go figure

So now you may be asking yourself a few questions....
Like how the heck did this animal doc know this!!????
Well, said doc pried open Doobies little tight-lipped mouth, peered down his pink little throat with a magnifying visor and determined that this is what was causing Doobie to blow bubbles from his nose and to wheeze like an old man with pneumonia.

Next, you might be wondering what one does to 'cure' a tortoise from an infection that has slowed my Doobie down to a crawl??
Believe it or not I have come home; after receiving a mini course of how to inject a tortoise's thigh (yes they do indeed have thighs),with an antibiotic.
Thats right!! I now get to give shots to my Doobie- four of them!!! Every other day, alternating thighs of course.
Lucky me
Lucky Doobie

Poor Doobie! I will make sure to show James this post. He let "Cowabunga" out yesterday in the sunshine, but it was a little chilly. In the 60's I think... It will help remind him to BE CAREFUL! Poor Doobie. Poor Cindy.

That is so interesting to me! Didn't know they could get colds...or give them antibiotics in the thighs! So glad Rob and his super human eyes spotted him when he did!

SO SAD!!! He certainly found his way into our hearts! As you could tell by the kiss Wes planted on his cute little shell as we were leaving! I'm glad he's got a great nurse though!

Thanks again for such a WONDERFUL RELAXING weekend! It was a great visit!

Did you still want some apples?
