A well-frog cannot imagine the ocean,
nor can a summer insect conceive of ice.
How then can a scholar understand the Tao?
He's restricted by his own learning.

I'd like to ramble further with my thoughts on miracles.
Those that know me, know that I love a good sci-fi story, movie or idea. I love the idea of the unlimited possibilities these stories imply. I do enjoy listening to George Nory late at night as he visits with listeners about extra-terrestrial encounters and their ghost stories. I take them in with a grain of salt. Im not a gullible soul, I dont think, but I love to ponder the possibilities.
So having said that, on this Sabbath day I'd like to equate miracles with the plan of our loving Heavenly Father.
First- lets consider the miracle of the creation of this glorious earth on which we dwell. And of the creation of all things that we share on this planet here.
Second- consider the miracle of our own lives.
Now consider if you will these verses of scripture:
Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.
All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.
For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and elements, inseparably connected, receive a fullness of joy; And when separated, man cannot receive a fullness of joy.
The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.
One of the things that I can take from these verses is that there are two 'building blocks' in our universe. 1. there is intelligence. And there always has been intelligence. 2. there is matter. And there always has been matter.
Next, I learned that intelligence acts; and matter is to be acted upon.
And when intelligence and matter are united... they become something extraordinary. Agency is exercised and they in turn can become organized with other extraordinary intelligence/matter to become atoms...and from atoms comes EVERYTHING else!! Rocks, water, gases, plants, all forms of life, stars and dare I suggest...spirits too!!!!?
I read the other day that Brigham Young taught that all things are free to act for themselves-which include even the basic elements. (please note here that this theorizing is coming from a fairly simple mind ...my simple mind!!)
We all have come to this earth with an innate understanding that a perfect God would never force anything to obey Him, but He can invite all things to join Him. For those that join Him, He expands their opportunities and knowledge to do what they may in joining Him in the pursuit if joy and growth.
Another interesting thought: God is all-powerful because things choose to obey/join and honor Him. To win obedience in all things God must be honorable in every way-so that all of creation will follow Him. We obey what we honor...isnt that right???
Sooo....back to my love of science fiction and my acknowledgment of real miracles. Maybe miracles could otherwise be known as God-sciences, as Paul Skousen calls it. God-science in action.
Think of the miracles of Jesus:
water to wine
blindness to sight
death to life
all of these 'cases' exemplify molecules in action. Here we have atoms returning to normal function. Could none of these miracles have happened if the intelligence in matter didnt choose to join/obey God?
Interesting, eh??
I've enjoyed reading about quantum theory. I find it all so fascinating, though I admit that I dont understand an 1/8th of what Im reading. What I do understand rings true to me. Just like hearing the Gospel rings a perfect tone through me.
And in reading an essay by Christopher Cokinos I found a perfect example on thoughts about this universe we orbit through and live in, and all its unknowns and possibilities. He writes,
"I cant show anyone most of the universe because most of the universe falls into the category of the hidden. I mean, the really, really hidden. Most of the universe is, as many people know, composed of dark matter, (23 percent) and dark energy (73 percent). What we typically perceive through our senses and our technology is only 4 percent of the universe. This 4 percent-yet another splendid fraction- is made up of baryonic matter, that is, atoms of 'ordinary' stuff. And we dont even know what dark matter and dark energy are. We see their effects but we dont know them at all. And this universe we're in, what ever it is, may be only one in a infinity of the multiverse, just one universe among the uncounted and the uncountable."
Extraordinary!!!
Miraculous!!!
