Another Wish Comes True

If more of us valued food and cheer
and songs above hoarded gold, it
would be a merrier world.

I'd like you to meet DOOBIE!
We are now the proud owners of a juvenile African Tortoise. He/She is 2 years old.

Becoming the caregiver of a tortoise has been #43 on my list of things to do before I die! ( flying in an F16 is #3) Owning a tortoise seems like a very reasonable desire dont ya think?? I think its gunna be groovy having him/her as part of the family.

I've enjoyed doing some research about this gentle reptile.

The greatest difficulty thus far is not knowing what to call it...is it a HE or SHE??? We just wont know what it is until its about 8 yrs old!!!

This little guy is a FAST grower and a FAST mover. He/she can easily be grow to the impressive weight of 100-200 lbs!! He can also slip from our sight in no time, if we look away. Hes a speedy critter and an escape artist!!

According to the statics, we will probably have to amend the will as well. He/she will outlive us all s0 one of the grandkids will need to inherit him. She/he could easily live to be 100 yrs old.

This guy is strictly vegan, so lunch meat and burgers and bugs are not included in his diet. He's a grazer and eats grasses, flowers and veggies; with fruit being only a rare treat.

She/he wont be hibernating in the winter. So we'll have to keep him warm when it gets cold outside...just like me!!!

"L" thinks he's the bomb!!!

WOW! Where did you land a tortoise? Do they just sell them in the pet store?
