Its a rare thing to find a Broadway play that has been recorded for DVD, to be an enjoyable and entertaining success. I know, I've tried a few times, with no reward. But....Im happy to report that I have finally found one!
INTO THE WOODS!!!
In my attempts to try and explain to cousin Lynley why this show was so much fun, I found myself skipping all over the disk, letting her see for herself just how clever it is. The songs are entrancing. The acting is first rate. The prince's are dashing.
Give it a try, and see just how entertaining it can be when a very talented mind(Steven Sondheim) decides to combine a whole bunch of our favorite fairy tales together and weaves his own yarn to delight us.
THe woods is where we see what mettle were made of; where we face our fears and fulfil our hearts desires.
And remember my advice....
*Never fully trust a Prince Charming.
*Little Red Riding Hood is no child to be messed with.
*Rapunzel cant possibly remain sane after living out her life in a tower!
*Fairy tales were as 'grim' as the Brothers Grimm could make them. Watch out for the implied gore...ie the step sisters feet will NEVER fully recover from the 'marring' they take in order to slip into golden slippers!! Yuck!!!
*Witches, wolves and giants will forever get and deserve a bum rap.
So give this one a try!!
It will be unlike anything you have seen before- except for on Broadway perhaps.
See if you too will come away amazed at the talent it takes to write lyrics so entertaining and engaging.
I think musicals rock!!

I forgot you love musicals. I am so glad you finally found that gem. Happy hunting - for more musicals, that is. I still have never seen this one. Wish I could come over for a movie night. (I can dream, right?)
