Stephenson Family Ties The Barn Burnt Down
And Now I See The Moon
"Summer," he said to me once,
drop some of them bricks you
keep hauling around with you.
Life just aint that heavy.

Can I just say- it sucks being a teenager. There isnt enough Pepsi on tap in the whole world to persuade me to return to those yesteryear's!!
Its just a hard and uncomfortable time in ones life.
Mostly
95% of the time.
Except....I do remember being able to run forever!!
And go to bed........oops never mind
And to survive on little or no sleep.
And there was the benifit of having meals provided for you too.
Other than that, Im stick'in with my statement-it sucks being a teenager.

Lately I've been noticing some STRESS around here-in the fellows under this roof.
It's manifesting itself with shuffling feet, hang dog expressions, acne or cold sores, and emotional melt-downs!!
Im sure its documented somewhere that the 18 year old haze begins to lift about the same time as that eighteenth year begins. Its been the case here, for sure. An emancipation has begun. And its exciting and invigorating to watch and learn and grow from!!
We are in countdown mode here!! Numbering the days-until school is OVER!!
For Bri-it cant happen soon enough, but....he needs more time to catch up!!
For Justus- its a relief, and in a sense a rebirth, with new resolutions and dreams.
Both of our 'stripling boys' are expressing a desire to 'get on with things,' ie- their missions.
BUT...
There's a YEAR to kill between now and then!! A whole year.
One of our boys needs to KNUCKLE DOWN a little longer,
and the other needs to LIGHTEN UP!!
Each is respectively difficult to do.
Make no mistake--We are VERY proud of these guys!!!
Its no easy thing being a teenager-its not for the faint-hearted!!
Each of these young men are handling teenagehood with amazing courage and yes...even grace!! We ENJOY their company!! Which I believe is an uncommon blessing when raising hormonal boys.
WHAT I KNOW:
VIVA LA SUMMER BREAK!!! We can almost taste it now!!! And, if these guys stick close to us, we'll help them enjoy the next 360 or so days!! Also...know that the nineteenth year is leagues BETTER than the last.

I remember telling Jenni what a wonderful time it was in her life to be young and unencumbered and after letting me ramble a few minutes she said, "Mom, it's not THAT great!" She was right, of course. It is a high pressure time of life. You have a great home and family for helping them get through it, though!
