Stephenson Family Ties The Barn Burnt Down
And Now I See The Moon

To My Daughter-In-Laws

"unpromising as any lump of humanity might
be, there is always the possibility that half a
dozen years of thumping and molding might
work it into respectable shape."
from: Good Morning Miss Dove
by:Frances Gray Patton

It almost comes as a wondrous surprise to learn that your sons have grown up to be respectable, honorable, delightful men. (though why I would EVER wonder, with the wonderful role model they have had all their lives with my Builder at the helm????) But still it exists, the awe and wonder when you gaze across the way at your grown-up children doing grownup things.
Its possible that the first big ‘test’ in the rite of passage into maturity may be the faith a parent places in their sons to choose a good women as their eternal companion. And im here to once again publicly state today that my sons have hit home runs, have knocked the ball out of the park!! How blessed we have been by their wise, inspired decisions to become man and wife.
Daughter in Laws are a gift and a blessing to our home. Daughter in laws who are talented, spiritual, wise, good and the most remarkable mommys to their children and our grandchildren can never be praised enough!! Did I neglect to add patient to this list…??…I mustn’t leave that all important trait off the roster. These ladies must be patient to be sure.
Im truly not insinuating that my sons are unpromising….nothing could be further from the truth. These boys are full of promise,.... full of it, and full of love and devotion too!! Im just suggesting, from one woman to another, that young men almost always need a little molding. And, there can be no better women to do the work than these two delightful ladies.

If You Marry My Son

you really ought to know...
he always leaves us underwear
lying on the floor
and does not have the slightest notion
of how it ends up
folded in the drawer.

He won't hang up
his clothes in the closet
so there is never a chair

you can sit on.
He doesnt make his bed,
talks on the phone for hours,
is always late for dates,
and goes to sleep too late.

He will not eat leftovers,
does not like paper plates,
he changes his mind often
for reasons no one knows,
He's obsessive, compulsive,
hardworking, great fun,
you'll never be bored
with my wonderful sons.

They are beautiful women and I know what you mean about what a blessing it is to have your children find such wonderful mates. Sons-in-law in my case, but an amazing blessing still to have a child happily sealed to someone wonderful.

Kudos go to those boys for getting me some new cousins that I adore!! I had the best time getting to know both Chelsea and Natalie this summer! I'm just sad we didn't have more time to hang out. I love the wonderful ways our family can grow.
