Having spent a restful night, they all
Woke feeling bright,
Though the ground was hard and lumpy
To be sure.
They put on their hats and jeans,
Had some coffee and some bean,
Then mounted up and hit the trail once more.

Everyday the trails around here share with us something good and glorious. In the winter, I have to force myself to get past the bone chilling cold at the onset of a hike, but then, always, there are treats in store for any of us who have made the effort to be out in the great out doors!!
Today was no exception- there are no exceptions really.
Today there was a underlying ‘warmth’ in the air. There is a whisper of spring.
But Im still amazed that there are patches of snow all over the park. Wherever there is shade, there is still nasty white stuff. Its truly time for it to be gone!!
Today was my turn for a leisurely stroll through Snow Canyon Park. We all have to take our turn. Its good for me to slow down sometimes, and to enjoy the view even more.

Today we heard quail making all sorts of squeaking noises. I’ve never tried to explain the sound of a quail call before- today I compared it to the squeak that a guinea pig makes. Odd indeed. But…that’s not the point. The quail have been hiding away, or have been gone all winter……today I beheld a whole covey of them kick’in up sand and raising cane in the rocks. Spring!!

Today the Resurrection Moss was even greener- especially when it's juxtaposed to the white of snow and the red of the rock!! Glorious Spring in the Air!!

Today there weren’t quite as many layers upon my bod.

Today there were other hikers sharing the trails. Spring is contagious!!
Ever heard of Moqui Marbles? They're just one more fascinating geological phenomenon of this area!! The petrified sand dunes are littered with them. Guests cant resist them. They fill their pockets or packs with them to take home to the kiddies. What do I know about Moqui Marbles....?

Only that they are compacted sandstone that are encased in a "shell" of iron. They "pop" out of the regular sandstone as it erodes away. They are also sometimes called Shaman Stones. The Native Americans believed they held mystical powers. Thats all I 'know.'
The trails we trod are sometimes new, and unexpected things can happen along the way. The next bend in the path can revel new and unexpected vistas or ????
Like this……..

Who would’a thunk we’d have to share the park with inmates from the local prison; a prison that is called Purgatory in these parts.!!(no joke) Who wouldn’t want to be out and about in green striped pajamas for all the jackrabbits, and world to see?
