My feisty, adorable daughter-in-law-Natalie-has encountered a glitch in her pregnancy. And we moms all know its not fun to have unexpected things happen to us while we're pregnant. Especially when its your FIRST pregnancy!!! Baby making is such a unique, emotional, anxious time in a womans life. And, if you've never 'constructed' one before, you can easily add a couple more zeros to the equation. Natalie is now dealing with one of the unknowns of baby making.
Last week the two of them went in for their monthly check-up. Natalie asked some very intuitive questions while they were there. She was sent to the 'experts' to get the questions answered. Turns out that her questions were valid ones. Turns out that she does indeed have an incompetent cervix!!
Ever since last weeks visit, Nat has been ordered to get OFF her feet-completely!! Essentially she is now on complete bed rest!! UGH!!!!!!!
Now I know that there many of us that fantasize that our doctors would please order us to bed!!! We can imagine being pampered, and not having to cook or clean or do anything!! Oh to lead a life of leisure for a time. But then I ask...How long would we really relish the experience? How long before our backs would begin to ache? Or, how long would it be before we became claustrophobic and stir crazy!!??
I'd give myself two days- if Im being honest with myself.
Two Days!!
Natalie is down for the count. Our baby boy needs to stay inside where he belongs, for the very least, 3 more weeks!! And of course we'd love it if he'd stay put for quite a bit longer than that.
We wish we could calm her fears.
Instead we can only bring in meals and movies and listen.
We wish we could wave a magic wand...
Instead we pray and encourage.
Im so grateful that our Joe seems to be a great strength and comfort to her!! ( and good help around the house too)
We want Natalie to know how much she is loved and appreciated. She blesses our family everyday. And we also feel confident that all will be well!!

Message to Natalie: Hang in there girl! I did this with #2 - but it was more like 6-8 weeks. Bathroom visits and 5 minute showers were my only "recreation". No couch laying, no rides in wheelchairs to the mall (believe me I BEGGED for anything outside my room!). I had VT's coming and doing housework, meals were brought in and my daughter was carted off to numerous babysitters while hubby worked and went to school. But I read and talked to baby and slept and talked on the phone and talked some more on the phone and yelled back and forth to those cleaning in the other part of the house, and talked on the phone some more! And when I was finally let out of bed two weeks before the due date, with everyone's (doc's included) expectation that delivery was imminent - baby didn't come until the day before his due date! But I felt reassured that he had "cooked" long enough, and the sacrifice was well worth it. My recommendations: Books, and even books on tape! (Got me through my head injury), good movies, learn how to cross stitch or crochet, and just enjoy some quiet time before your world drastically changes (for the BETTER!).
I'll be thinking of you!
We'll keep her in our prayers! I won't share all the little panic bubbles in my stomach about the situation (having one who came six weeks early...which is nothing compared to 10 or 11 weeks) but I know the Lord loves them and knows what they're going through.
Thank goodness she has a sister with experience in this kind of situation who's close and can recognize warning signs! And kudos to Natalie for her motherly intuition. Good luck Stephenson clan! We're thinking of you!
Thanks Cindy!! I'm so lucky to have so many family members close by that are so willing to help out with anything that I need! Now all I need is a baby that will cooperate and stay in there!!!
Good luck to Natalie. This is a bummer, but there is good advice from Judy, and I'm sure she will take it. Hope all goes well.
I was put on bedrest with #3 two weeks before Christmas...What!!? I'm the mother here and need to be up and doing! As it turned out, it was a very sweet experience as it forced me to relax and actually enjoy Christmas. And, I got to play CandyLand with Matthew and Stephanie to my heart's content. Put as many sleep deposits as you can in your sleep account before baby comes. Rest assured that he will claim many withdrawals when he arrives. You and baby are in our prayers!
