Stephenson Family Ties The Barn Burnt Down
And Now I See The Moon

Mrs Miniver

I dont know how I ever missed seeing this movie- for I have seen MANY movies in my lifetime thus far. On the other hand,I also realize that if I had seen this movie at some earlier time in my life, I would NEVER have appreciated it as much as I did while viewing it this last week!

I dont want to be guilty of being a "spoiler"-so I will tread lightly in the sharing of my impressions and why this old black and white movie has moved me so.

First impression- As a mother of grown-up boys, I sometimes 'see' movies in a whole new light. And the enlightenment I found in this movie is highlighted even more because there is a war going on. This movie captures exquisitely the emotions a mother feels as their sons grow to manhood and join the cause of freedom. (which is a no-brainer really.duh)

Second Impression- a POWERFUL war story can be told and FELT without any show of actual violence or bloodshed! This movie is proof positive of this!!! War is hell!! Many, many boys and men and innocent bystanders are killed by war! (yet another no-brainer. duh)
Picture yourself and your young family holed up in a bunker that you built in your own back yard. Picture having to use this bunker on many occasions as bombs and bullets and warfare go on above? What will you find when you can finally emerge from your hole in the ground?

This movie was about many things! To many to list really. But the main thing I gleaned from it was to appreciate the simple pleasures in life and to share these pleasures with family, friends and loved ones at every opportunity that we may. Hope springs eternal, as does love and marriage.
What an amazing movie! This movie maker knew how to tell a story, to be sure!!!

Well you've convinced me. Where can you get it, netflix, blockbuster, the library? Thanks for your insights! My favorite channel growing up was AMC, I look forward to this classic!
