Stephenson Family Ties The Barn Burnt Down
And Now I See The Moon

Here we have another book written for tweens, but I will whole heartedly tell you that adults will get wrapped up in this story as well!!!  This grown-up sure did!!
Two stories are woven together as one in the Newbury Award winning book.  First we have  young Abilene who jumps off a train in Manifest KC in 1936.  She is to spend the summer there, living with a friend of her fathers while he works for the railroads in Iowa.  The 'parallel' story unfold as Abilene uncovers a mystery that needs solving, that happen to the folks of Manifest in 1918, during WWI.
Thats enough clues.
ITs DeLIghTfUL!!!
